![]() Alchemy, as you read the series, as you go along, alchemy isn’t really even what’s happening here. ![]() Why did you go for alchemy in the trilogy instead of witchcraft?Īlma Katsu: Well, that’s a funny thing. That, of course, spooky springs to mind, Salem. ![]() And it was bound to seep in to any story that I told. Just grew up around cemeteries and, you know, ghost stories and all that sort of thing. I think the supernatural part came because I grew up in a very, very spooky little town in Maynard, Massachusetts. But then the story just grew out of there. And Jonathan, a little cattish man that she falls in love with. I got the idea for the main characters, Lenore, the woman who lives for love basically, falls disastrously in love with the wrong man and it ruins her life. I want to say the characters came first, because that’s really what drove me to write the series. Which came first, the characters or their paranormal world?Īlma Katsu: Well, I’d have to say they probably came together. ![]() ![]() The Taker Trilogy is a wonderful mixture of mainstream, romance and fantasy elements. ![]() The bottom line is this, if you care at all about the reality of mental illness and are even slightly educated or experienced in the subject, this book will only frustrate you. To be honest with you, I don't remember anything about the plot or side characters, I was too busy growing more and more pissed off with this book's inaccurate portrayal of serious issues in the world. Anna Bloom is one dimensional, not funny, and just a bore to read about. Raise your hand if at 15 years old you have ever told somebody that you could do a "celebratory Snoopy dance" over the return of your one true friend, blankey? Anyone? No? Of course not, because self-respecting teenage girls don't say blankey. From the tag line on the cover ("Who says depression has to be depressing?") to Anna Bloom's psychiatrist telling her that her not eating was good because she could afford to lose a few pounds it's very clear that this is a complete joke.īesides this, Anna Bloom is easily one of the most annoying, immature characters I have ever read. Instead it makes a mockery of real life problems people have. ![]() Get Well Soon is supposed to be about a young teenager's struggles with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. ![]() ![]() If I could give this book zero stars, I would. ![]() ![]() ![]() Since the hospital staff's lips seem to be tighter than the security, and it's hard for Stephanie to blend in to assisted living, Stephanie's Grandma Mazur goes in undercover. or that maybe he never made it out of his room alive. I did feel like this could have been a shorter book. I never could have predicted that perfect, fabulous ending. ![]() This series really had some twists and turns, and I was happy at how often it surprised me. To be honest, I had gotten used to the “manic pixie dream girl” voice, and it was an adjustment when it was mostly gone. I was bummed out at how Monono’s voice was portrayed once the Dreamsleeve was destroyed, since she sounded kind of unfeeling, but it was only right to change it as things progressed. Solid conclusion to a trilogy I enjoyed quite a bit! This was the only one from the series I did on audio, and the readers, Theo Solomon, Saffron Coomber, and Hanako Footman, all did a really nice job. ![]() ![]() ![]() The search for the kidnapped boy whisked virtually everyone in the cast around the world, with Mr. Assigned to rescue Leopold (if possible) was chief FBI investigator Latimer King (Delroy Lindo), who much against his will was teamed with rogue ex-agent Knapp (Jeremy Sisto), who in turn worked hand in glove with his mysterious sidekick Turner (Carmen Ejogo).
